We have seen a wave of favoritism sweep through our culture recently. Racism still runs deep within our country and it seems as though the rich are more favored than the poor. When you look clearly into Scripture, you know that God is not a racist nor does He give more favor to the rich.
Psalm 145:9 says, “The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation”. Even though some of God’s creation values certain people over others, that is not a result of God’s doing, but of the sin that exists in our hearts.
Romans 2:11 says, “God does not show favoritism”, and we have to believe that God is not more pleased with someone because of their skin color or the amount of money in their bank account. Here are four reasons that God has no favoritism.
1. We are all made in the image of God
There is no one race more superior to another. Your bank account does not determine how much God loves you. We are all capable of worshipping God; we are all made with meaning and purpose. We are more alike than we are different.
2. We are all sinners corrupted by the fall
Everyone made in the image of God has also had that image tainted and twisted by original sin. Again, we are more alike than we are different.
3. Favoritism is a sin
When we treat people unfairly it causes us to assume the worst about people. When we favor one group over another, we do not reflect God nor do we honor Christ, who came to save us all.
4. Christ came to break down barriers between people, not build them up
The one God who came to save all people has offered to all people has come to so we can find the same redemption, through the same faith in one God.
